Why a separate tool is needed at all

Every platform on this site stores profile pictures at a decent resolution and then shows you a shrunken copy. The reason is bandwidth: a timeline with fifty avatars in it would be slow if each one were full size. That trade-off makes sense for the platform and is invisible until the moment you actually want the picture.

At that point the usual options fail. Screenshotting captures the shrunken version. Right-clicking gives you the same thumbnail. Zooming enlarges pixels without adding detail. The larger file is sitting on the platform's own servers the whole time; it simply is not linked from the page.

The sizes you can actually expect

Numbers matter more than promises here, so these were measured by downloading each image and comparing file sizes rather than reading documentation:

Two of those numbers are deliberately unflattering. X caps avatars at 400 pixels when they are uploaded, and Twitch stops at 600 — requests for anything larger return an error, which we tested. No tool can exceed a limit the platform enforces at upload time, and anywhere you see a much bigger figure advertised, the image is being upscaled afterwards. Upscaling invents detail; it does not recover it.

Nothing is stored here

Lookups are not logged against you, images are not kept on our servers, and there is no account to create. A request passes through, the image streams to your device, and that is the end of it. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is and is not retained.

Public pictures only

Everything here reads what a platform already shows to any visitor. Nothing bypasses a privacy setting, and no login of yours or anyone else's is involved. Where a platform genuinely restricts an image, the lookup fails rather than working around it — that is the intended behaviour, not a fault.

What you do with a downloaded picture is a separate question from whether it can be retrieved. Profile photos usually belong to the person who took or commissioned them, and passing one off as your own can breach a platform's impersonation rules as well as copyright. Saving something for personal reference is not the same as republishing it.
